Dr. Horace F. Whittaker, Jr.

A distinguished Black male educator with a doctorate in education from Northeastern University, We Are Humankind reflects years of research into the school readiness of African American children. Drawing from his extensive experience teaching thousands of students in urban and rural public schools for over two decades, Dr. Whittaker recognized the critical importance of exploring how African American parents perceive themselves, their children, and community in terms of child readiness and the ecological context that influences their views. What he has learned propelled him to develop Ecological Consciousness Theory (ECT), a groundbreaking framework that embraces valuing humankind, collaboration, spirituality, and personhood.
